After a long night of distraught sleep – dreaming about a constant struggle to swim out of mutinous nuclear waste – an idea sparked for a series of tea sets about the common environmental problems in our society.  After much research on the subject, I thought this series of work would be a subtle way of bringing awareness.  The series titled “DeformiTea” portrays deformed animals often found near polluted waters.  The teapots have mutations as well, whether it is extra parts, missing parts or parts that don’t work.  The serving trays are all made from reclaimed wood and hardware, in an effort to recycle.

Just recently in the news, Trevan, a little boy from
Whichita, KS, brought home a 9 legged frog.  The frog is believed to have been found in a nearby pond and drainage ditch.  Rumors that their neighborhood was built on an old landfill have many parents in the area worried, especially since most of their children play in the waters.   Since 1996, 35 states have reported abnormalities in animals due to contaminated water supplies.
